I find five phases, which correspond to five different eras and/or points of view across the same extensive period: Winston Graham was one of the most successful and prolific novelists of the twentieth century. He wrote in many genres but his best known body of work was the twelve historical ‘Poldark’ novels set in Cornwall at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries. Winston Graham began his Poldark series in 1945 with the novel Ross Poldark. He would publish three more novels (all in 1953) before putting the series on hiatus for twenty years. In 1973, he resurrected the series with The Black Moon.
